Set up YI Home cameras to work with Google Assistant

Great feedback @Woolywonk I will pass the info along  as we move forward, more and more integrations & features will be rolled out.

Ho Patrich,
Lā€™ok currently experiencing the same issue se Fiuwe: same error while trying to connect camera to my google home.!
Can you Please help me?
Thanks!
Pquaran

All now works OK for me too, after I removed my Yi account from Google Home and then reconnected it. Iā€™d tried this before and it made no difference, so something must have been updated recently.

One remaining issue thatā€™s annoying ā€¦ when I show a camera, it seems to stutter and pause 2-3 times before finally showing a picture. This means you can have a 5-10 second delay after it first starting to show video and having a steady picture.

Any way this can be resolved so that we get a steady video stream more quickly?

@Gooman I am glad all is working again. The time it takes to upload the stream would be dependent wifi. How is your connection? Speed?

I have 55Mb/s downstream, 20Mb/s upstream.

The problem isnā€™t so much the delay on starting. Itā€™s that after itā€™s started, it pauses then plays a couple of seconds then pauses again, repeating this a few times before itā€™s stable.

You can see a short video of this behaviour here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/4yWgfAzQsdRASm4L6

If I reconnect to the same camera again immediately afterwards, thereā€™s no pause/play cycle - it just plays straight away.

Hi Steve, Thanks for your kind reply, but I am waiting since more than 2 months now for your team contacting me, and my problem is still not resolved. Could you please look into it? I read itā€™s a pretty common problem people experience, should be addressed by the support team I guessā€¦
I am looking forward to your answer, thanks!

Hey @Mirco Thanks for your patience! A couple of questionsā€¦

How far away from the router is your camera? And, are you using 2.4ghz or 5 ghz?

Hi Steven,
Itā€™s an open space, no walls in between. The router is 5m from one camera and about 10m from the other one. Signal is strong. I use 2.4 ghz. I tried it all, resetting, disconnecting, start from scratch. Nothing to do. The cameras are not recognised.

My Yi Cameras are no longer working with Google home. I have removed them from the app and also unlinked them from accounts.google.com. However when I try to relink my account I get the message (couldnā€™t update the setting, check your connection)

I also get the delay as experienced by @mirco

@balbyb Thanks for lettings us know. I will follow-up with you both shortly with more information

Here are some trouble shooting steps to try. We are looking into this further now. But please try these steps:

Step 1: Create a YI user account and set up a camera

  1. If you havenā€™t already, please download YI Home app or Kami Home app from the App Store or Play Store and create an account
  2. Follow the instruction to set up camera(s)

Step 2: Connect YI Home devices to Google Assistant
  3. Download and open the Google Home app
  4. Tap the + symbol at the top left.
  5. Click ā€œSet up deviceā€.
  6. In the Set-Up page, select ā€œWorks with Googleā€ at the bottom.
  7. Under ā€œAdd devicesā€, search ā€œYi Home Camera (if using a YI camera) or Kami Home Camera (if using a Kami camera)ā€.
  8. In the next step, select the region of the YI Home or Kami Home account. Enter your YI Home or Kami Home account email and password. Click ā€œLoginā€ to authorize Google to access your devices.
  9. Once linked, select cameras from the list and add them to a room.

Step 3: If you are streaming to a Nest Hub, make sure the device is set up. If you are streaming your camera to a tv with a Chromecast and Google speaker, make sure the device is set up.

Step 4: Control the YI Home or Kami Home cameras with Google Nest Hub or Chromecast with Google Nest speaker.
  10. To show the camera, you can say ā€œOkay Google",
  • ā€œStream [camera name]ā€ (Nest Hub)
  • ā€œStream [camera name] on [Chromecast device name]ā€ (Chromecast w/ Google speaker)
  1. To stop viewing the camera, you can say ā€œOkay Google, stopā€ or "Okay Google stop [TV/Chromecast device name]"Note: Cross compatibility is supported with the use of either the YI Home or Kami Home app.
