YI Help Center: Micro SD Cards vs Cloud Subscription

Yi is aware (not award) of these issues and is doing nothing apart of trying to offer extra discounts (60% today to me) for a service we don’t want. If I buy an SD Card to avoid buying cloud service, it’s what I expect.
Yi realized SD Card is an option for some customers and Yi has upgraded the firmware of the cameras to force moving to cloud service. If not, there’s no more alerts storage locally. There’s nothing.
So, please, don’t say anymore that Yi is aware of that issue. Just fix it.

Hi all,
in addition to Juceta’s words, I can say from a lawyer perspective that YI is cutting cameras functionalities already sell inside to the goods. Can be sued in court because subtract benefit to the users after they bought the cameras with those functionalities.
If YI don’t fix this, coming back to the original functionalities, will receive most negative feedback on my blog and towards cheined bloggers, and social media too.
As a results YI’ll receive Amazon order cancellations and complaints from customers who have been buying their cameras for many years.

I agree, complaints and returns will rise sharply. I recently purchased another Yi Home 1080p and followed the firmware upgrade only to realize that the function that lead me to these cameras have been removed. Not happy and anxiously waiting for the class action lawsuit.

@burchis @LukeLogger

so I purchased 8 cameras (Yi Home 1080P) and purchased 8x 32GB micro SD cards in middle of 2022. I did this because in 2019, I bought 1 Yi Home 720P camera and enjoyed the benefit of having eyes on where I need to detect motion and record it. Many firmware updates, and many app overhauls…there’s been ups and downs to progression. The latest firmware released on December 9, 2022 (version: 12.2.0.2_202212091350) has rendered all 8 of my camera useless if I do not subscribe to their monthly plan. I bought these because Yi (aka Kami), designed and supported a product that was ideal for my needs - it allowed me to playback activity at an affordable price - you know, a stand-alone product that did not require a monthly plan etc.

I have forwarded this over to Amazon, and they have escalated this to a specialty team at Amazon for review. They have pointed out that if my comments listed above are factual, this would be deemed a violation of Amazon’s policies and restrict Yi/Kami from being sold as originally listed on Amazon and require product exchange to comply with policies set forth. This is only applicable to those that purchased on Amazon since December 9, 2019 (they go back 3 years from the time of the consumer-right violation(s)). They said the process of investigation can take a few months. We’ll see.

Thanks for this information, I will be following this thread. I too bought all my Yi Home cameras from Amazon. I’d like to keep the cameras and roll back the firmware, they did the job I originally bought them for.

Human detection is a features present in the hardware. 6 seconds is stored on their servers and has a cost. We just need a push message with write: Human Detected. It is so simple: if you want a features that is not inside the processor, you have to pay. Simple and clear. We do not want to hack the camera: We want to trust your company !

I have yet to see any worthy effort or attempt by Yi/Kami in resolving the issues 1000’s of users are experiencing. Reddit is filled with people discussing the recent tactic and violations by Yi/Kami. Then on Amazon, the 1 & 2 star reviews for the last 2 months…read those. There are a lot of folks very sorry they trusted Yi/Kami pushing that firmware update. Every single camera that downloaded/applied the firmware (anything released on and after November 24th, 2022) is affected…or should I say infected???

The replies I have gotten with very clear context and images showing what is going on… replies are a joke. They ignore what I am inquiring about and just reply to something I can only presume some other customer asked them about.

I am thoroughly bummed by this as everything was good…for years…then they push these firmware updates and render users’ cameras useless unless you pay $$$ for cloud service.

I recently bought cloud subscription and I am a bit disappointed… All my cams have also SD card inside. I recognized that sometimes recordings are missing in the cloud or are incomplete but are available entirely on the SD card.

For me it looks like that in case of an event but internet shortly not available the recording will not be synced to the cloud when internet is available again

oh dum and i got my in 2018

Hi Burchis, buy the same camera on Amazon, swap it out, and with new camera(s), simply to not update firmware. I did this recently to ALL my cameras, and they all work wonderfully now. Not one hiccup. Return your old camera and keep the new… enjoy

Sorry to intrude YI has stopped me talking about time stamp on cameras I am not allowed to ask or say anything about them totally fed up with them only 1 camera left only because it is so hard to get too and replace went to TP-Link far better quality especially the star light ones time stamp as standard have 10 set up sorry for butting in
shireking

Preformat your SD card somewhere else, like computer or laptop, then use it in yiiot cam. It worked better

I have 2 cams since december. I have lots of problems. First time I hear about sd cards is right now. My app only let me record withba subscrition so I paid 79,99€ to be able to have recordings but since now any recordings on the cloud and I only have 1 picture of the detected motions, so no video. One of my cameras dosn’t pairs to the dock since 2 werks ago (don’t know why) and I would like to disconect o “off” the cameras from time to time but it is not posible as there is not an “off” button, ant tje camera makes noise or I don’t want de camera to be conected.
Can you help me? I find this expensive, uncomfortable and useless

@Maria: I tried to help and answer your questions, I am kind of confuse, so the answer may not to the point.

You want, sometimes, the camera off. Turn off the power supply, the camera will be off.
Or, in the yi iot mobile app, click your cam>right upper corner the hexagon icon is the setting> the first line, turn camera on/off.

On some model, camera>settings>Alert settings>Schedule will allow one to set schedule for the camera on or off 7 days a week and 24 hours a day, re cycling. It worked well for me. Not all cams have this function.

I am sorry if that is not what you ask. Post back, we will help you. No. I do not work for yi tech, I am just a user.

At this point, guys, I decided to uninstall my YI cameras and destroy them, no SD card registration after firmware and App upgrade, so long time to connect, and react command with huge lag.
We have more affordable on the market and I don’t want to waste more time with YI.
See you on other channels.

Is it possible to downgrade firmware? And have anyone tried custom firmwares. I would like to try, but my Kami wire-free outdoor cam is not in the supported device list for custom firmware. If anyone know about some workaroud please PM me?

How do you format in camera
