Set up YI Home cameras to work with Google Assistant

We have some great news! Kami Home Cameras now also work with Google Assistant and the Google Home Hub.

Hi all, I’m still not able to connect YI Home Camera service to my Google Home account due to an error like “Unable to update app setting. Check Connection”
I’m trying to link it from Italy, using my android phone.

Can you help me ?

How to view YI Home cameras on Google Home Hub

Step 1: Create a YI user account and set up a camera

  1. If you haven’t already, please download YI Home app from Google Play and create an account
    OK
  2. Follow the instruction to set up camera(s)

    Step 2: Connect YI Home devices to Google Assistant
    NOT OK
  3. Open the Google Home app
    OK
  4. Tap the + symbol at the top left, to Add a device
    OK
  5. Under “Add to home” select the Blue Plus symbol to “Set up device”
    OK
  6. In the Set-Up page, select “Have something already set up?” at the bottom
    OK
  7. In the “Manage accounts” page, find “Yi Home Camera” from the list
    OK
  8. In the next step, enter your YI Home user account email and password and authorize
    Google to access your devices
    NOT OK, after I write my email and password, going back to goggle home setting, I have error : “Unable to update app setting. Check Connection”
  9. Select cameras from the list and add to a room

Hi, I have been having lots of issues with 2 Yi home cameras working on my Google Nest Hub. They seem to work sporadically and even when they do work, only show the video feed for a short while before it stops working (looks like it is trying to connect but doesn’t). They work fine when viewing on my mobile phone so I know that internet is not an issue.
I have not been able to view the cameras at all for the last few days (I get the message, "sorry its looks like the stream is currently unavailable from “X” camera”), could this be due to a software update on the cameras that happened a few days ago?
Please can you advise how I can fix these issues to have a steady and reliable video feed on the Google home hub mini?

@iMAOther To isolate this issue, please try the following:

• Move the Nest Hub and camera next to your router. Power cycle the Nest Hub and the camera. (Unplug if for 5-10 seconds and plug it back in)
• Ensure there are no obstructions that may block the Wi-Fi signal between the router and both devices.

Then try turning off the camera in the YI Home app and then turn it back on. To do this, go into your YI Home app and click the hexagon symbol inside your camera thumbnail. In Settings, at the top of the screen, click on the green toggle switch to turn the camera off. Click the grey toggle switch to turn the camera back on. After doing so, try to stream your camera with Nest Hub.

If that doesn’t work try the steps below.

  1. On your Nest Hub screen, swipe down from the top. Click on Cameras.
  2. From the list of cameras shown, click on the camera you are trying to view.
  3. The camera will link up and show it streaming on your Nest Hub.

Use the commands from the list below to stream the camera with Nest Hub.

  • “Show [camera name]”
  • “What’s on [camera name]?”
  • “[Camera name] on [Chromecast device name]”
  • “Play [camera name] on [Chromecast device name]”
  • “Show [camera name] on [Chromecast device name]”
    “Stop [TV/Chromecast device name]”

Hi.

I have a couple of Yi cameras. I try to stream them to my chromecast ‘hey google stream nursery camera to tv’. I will get one image but not streaming video. It happens on both cameras.

Any ideas?

Hi Jonathan, thanks for joining the forum. In the cameras settings, please turn the camera off and back on and let me know if that helps.

Hi. I am afraid that doesn’t help. I load the camera onto chromecast then try to turn them off and on. The effect is the same. Just stays with the opening image.

I am unable to link my Yi Home Camera account to Google Home. After I put in my credentials it gives me an error, “Couldn’t update the setting. Check your connection.”

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum phildbs! Ensure that there are no obstructions that may block the signal between the router and the camera. See if the connection is stable.

The cameras work fine in the Yi Home app. The problem is linking Google Home to Yi Home, it won’t allow me to link the accounts together.

I am experiencing the same issue reported in this chat.

I was already using my cams with Google assistant. I add several new cameras (all yi 1080p model) and try to refresh my yi account on Google assistant. Always recieved ‘error connection message’.

I deleted my old yi connection with all devices to try to reconnect. Now it is impossible to connect. Google assistant always shows a toast with the same error, so now I don’t have any camera available on Google assistant.

It seems like the API is not properly working, but I would like a solution for this issue, since I bought this cameras because they were compatible with Google assistant…

Kindly power cycle the cameras then proceed to pair them to Google assistant.

  1. Download and open the Google Home app

Step 3: If you are streaming your camera to a tv with a Chromecast make sure the device is set up.

If you are streaming to a Nest Hub make sure the device is set up.

Step 4: Control the YI Home or Kami Home cameras with Google Nest Hub or Chromecast with Google Nest speaker.

  1. To show the camera, you can say “Okay Google",
  • “Show [camera name]”
  • “What’s on [camera name]?”
  • “[Camera name] on [Chromecast device name]”
  • “Play [camera name] on [Chromecast device name]”
  • “Show [camera name] on [Chromecast device name]”
  1. To stop viewing the camera, you can say “Okay Google, stop” or “Okay Google stop [TV/Chromecast device name]”

Hello,
Any chance for my 720p YI Home Camera to show in google home hub? I have two of these cameras. When I try to link the account, it shows linking account, but does not list the camera in google app.

Las credenciales, son 100% correctas.
Cierro sesión desde la app yi camera y vuelvo a entrar con mis credenciales de forma correcta, pero desde google home, me dice que no fué exitoso.

I apologize that you are not able to log in with your YI account credentials in the Google Home app. Can you please send a screenshot of the error you are receiving? I’m not able to locate the type of camera you have. Please send a screenshot of the label on your camera.
