I installed the new firmware yesterday and it worked up until today. After someone rang the doorbell it went offline and won’t connect again.
Hey @moonhacker Oh no! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Can you confirm that the firmware is the newest edition?
Did you have at least 3 bars charged when you updated?
Did you go through the repairing process when you updated your firmware?
How’s the internet connection?
After the doorbell went offline, did you try to ring the doorbell again and see if it came back online?
Thanks for your assistance. We’ve tested any offline issues thoroughly, if there’s any extra information you could provide or anything at all, please let us know.
Just set up my Kami doorbell wired up to a mechanical chime in the UK. Everything seems to be working ok and the mechanical chime sounds as expected. My question is how can you tell if the battery is definitely bring charged by the hardwired connection? There doesn’t seem to be any kind of charging indicator either on the doorbell or in the Kami app anywhere which is kind of frustrating and a basic feature to be lacking. From what I’m seeing I just have to trust that the battery is being charged which means it could just go offline in a couple of months when the battery runs out of juice! Many thanks, Kev.
Hey there @Kmanpilkers Welcome to the forum and excellent questions!
When you pull up landscape mode (fullscreen), there should be a battery indicator there. If not, let me double-check with our team. If the battery is low and about to run out, you will receive in-app notifications and will show in the live view feed in standard mode as well.
I know this thread started from 2021, but I recently bought a Kami doorbell, installed as per instruction using via mechanical doorbell, Kami Doorbell works for a bit, then goes offline again. What else can i do to get it to not go offline? Every Yi camera I own doesn’t have that issue. Even my Yi outdoor camera works great and image is clear. Has this issue with the kami Doorbell been solved yet or is it a worldwide defect? This is very frustrating.
I would recommend checking the wifi connection at your location. You could then try to reset the device and set it up and see what happens.
If that still does not correct the issue then it would require assistance from customer service team.
@YorkshireUser Yep, I’ve already checked and my wifi isn’t the issue as my other Yi cameras are connected without issues. I’ve reset Kami Doorbell multiple times (it’ll work for a bit, then stops) and reconnected it. Customer service has been contacted. At this point, I’m so flustered with it, I may just return it and get something else. I was so excited about having every device on 1 app though.
Ok you say the other cameras are fine but how far away are these in relation to your wifi router?
@YorkshireUser My outdoor ones are to the other side of the house. When the house was built, the internet connection was built in my bedroom, so the wifi modem sits in the bedroom as well. I’m running on 5ghz wifi. I thought it was my mechanical chime messing up, but it’s not. The only thing I haven’t tried is running it on just battery, but that defeats the purpose of being able to use the mechanical chime, right??
Running it on battery could be an option. What would help too would be to remove the Doorbell from it is currently installed and then place it to the side of your router and see how it operates
I assume the mechanical chime is compatible with the doorbell device ?
I should have added when it disconnects does it reconnect automatically or do you need to reset the doorbell and set it back up again?
@YorkshireUser I could try that after I get home from work to check if that’s the case. Yes, the mechanical chime is compatible and yes, it auto-reconnects itself. I also have an indoor Yi camera installed in the den, which is on the other side of the wall of the door and even that works great, no connection lost.
Is the doorbell located/installed on your door? If so any idea what material your door is. Could it have a metal insert within the material of the door?
My doorbell is hooked up to my existing doorbell wire. I’m not too sure what my door is made of. I can check later.
@YorkshireUser I decided to check my Kami doorbell and it’s working at the moment. Image is very clear, so we’ll see what it does in few hours.
UPDATE: Surely enough, it says “offline” again, but all other cameras are still online with no interruptions.
Hi.
Can you check to see if it works when closer to your router. Can you check if there’s any firmware updates. If it works closer to your router it could be something about the placement - not at all ideal I know
It’s offline again while it’s sitting right next to the wifi modem.
UPDATE: Doorbell works after I re-wired to existing doorbell again. I’m so confused with this doorbell all together. It’s so bipolar.
Hello. See how it goes and let me know
I had similar disconnect issues. What fixed mine is making sure
the battery had a full charge. Once it had a full charge I have not had any more problems.
The information provided with the camera is not that great. It should say 100% make sure the battery is FULLY Charged before using the doorbell. It makes you believe that the doorbell connected to the electric will charge the battery so I just did a light charge and it worked but then it continued to disconnect. From the instructions a full charge allows it to work and remain charged for a long long time. Meaning you may not ever need to charge it again. But its important that its FULLY charged from the get go.
Apologies, as I know I’m a year after the fact here, but I still can’t see that there is a battery charging indicator anywhere in the landscape live view. See image attached.
My battery charges OK, so it wasn’t a problem for me, but I feel as though you should definitely be able to check whether your battery is staying charged or not. You’re right that you get notifications for low battery, but they go into misc notifications category on Android which we keep disabled as otherwise we get flooded by motion detected/smart notifications all the time.
