ADS in Kami Home & Yi Home, is this true?

Ads suddenly starded popping up on my app. I have 8 cameras with SD cards and do not want or need a subscription. If this is their way of forcing me to subscribe, it will back fire. Already looking at other platforms… Very dissappointed.

How did you find a way to contact them on the app?

The funny thing is if you guys go to Account - App Setting and look at “Opt out launch screen promotion” is already checked.

I am personally going to make sure every blog , forum and review site is aware that these cameras are absolute garbage after they started putting ads in the app , and no I dont want or need a subscription service , they are totally useless now, I need fast access to my cameras to see what’s going on! I would like a refund for the cameras I have because any company that’s willing to pull this cannot be trusted. They are all being replaced

I actually had to check on my settings to see that option because I didn’t recall it being there before. Of course I turned it off, then restarted the app and immediately got an unskippable ad for a video game.

Yes me too and advicing people not to buy this brand cameras in the future, i am also texting all my suppliers not to buy this brand with ads

We are all on here complaining hoping they remove the ads. Unfortunately any of us who have invested some money in this product may lose the money. However, once everyone abandons this product they will lose their entire business. Sam Walton once said “the customer can fire the entire company from the CEO on down by simply taking their business elsewhere.” It’s time to do that. After 10 years and several cameras there seems to be no other option for me. Yi / Kami you have failed and now you are fired!

It looks like Yi has released a firmware update which stopped the push notification ads. I noticed all of my detection settings were reverted and now I am no longer getting constant ads.

Update April 2025:

They have released an update which has brought the constant advertisement push notifications back. I had previously commented that they did the right thing and removed them back in January. Unfortunately, it looks like they’ve chosen to resume these advertisements, which I feel is a terrible business practice. Apparently it’s not enough to buy their product and pay for a yearly subscription, Yi will use their security camera application to hijack your push notifications to send you advertisements. I am pretty thoroughly disappointed with this company.

Update, they’re now including pop up ads every time you open a camera’s view in addition to the push notifications. Thanks for making this software even more insufferable, Yi. I think I’m done with this product.

So now you run the app. For some reason we now get a video playing trying to sell you some trainers or some other nonsense. When you try and close this down 9/10 you end up going to the vendors website. Click back again and now in the app…but wait now I have to consent or manage my options EVERTIME i open the app…fine, let the chinese have all my data (again) hold on!! still time for an AI option subscribe blocker…finally the app opens. It’s really magic. I have now replaced my cameras with Eufy cameras as I am TOTALLY PISSED OFF with this crap. To all at KAMI/YI congratulations…

Worse now, some of the ads are auto launching websites. Latest is “your phone has a virus” website.

I have swapped mine for TAPO cameras now. Good luck!

Same, just bought 2 to test out and replace the Yi’s that I use the most, then I’ll probably replace the next 2 most used ones. I’ve had the C120’s for about a week now and they are sooo much better, but to keep from getting banned, I’ll leave it at that.
I’m still getting the forced pop-ups when I check the cams. They actually stopped showing ads for about 5 days after I complained.

I’m really pissed at this. I have 11 cameras with SD cards and I bought them because they did not have ads or required subscriptions. Someone mentioned to me that there is a class action lawsuit being filed so I’ll wait for that too. In the meantime I want to replace all my cameras with another brand that does not have ads or subscriptions because this is absolutely unscrupulous and I cannot support a company that does this. I would rather spend $500 on new cameras than to pay this company for a subscription. Any ideas?

I’m beyond pissed. I’ve had my 5 Yi cameras for years now, but in the past year there have been excessive ads and outright garbage that impairs my ability to utilize the app as I once did. It takes a laborious amount of time to sift through this garbage while I’m being inundated with requests to sign up for Kami.

So…in the bloody bin they will go. I will purchase an entire new system of cameras instead that don’t force me to watch bullshit ads to be able to use them. Your company has definitely gone into the gutter.

Yeah I bought three cameras from them too and still have them they worked but with all the ads I can barely sign on so inconvenient now I decided to throw them in the fire pit this company is nothing but crap with these ads pathetic ad whores is what they are I’m sticking with amcrest and kasa. There are many other companies out there like sollium they are very good and their cameras work I have three of these cameras from this w**** ad company and the cameras were okay until all the ads just keep rolling in so I bought one subscription and now they have games that come up when you’re trying to look for your camera they inundate you with nothing but crap this must be a Chinese company God knows f****** pain in my ass people I swear to Christ
I feel if you bought the cameras you own them and all they’re doing is a parasitical b******* with these ads and making it so inconvenient for you to get to your cameras so I’m fine with throwing these pieces of s*** away because this company sucks I’ll never buy s*** from them again and I will put reviews out everywhere I can to blast them because they’re nothing but ads whores

I agree with you. There is nothing that we signed or agreed on to have these continual pop-up ads. I just wrote in even signed in to this blog because I’m even getting religious pop-up ads. You can’t get rid of them you actually have to shut off your phone and come back in again before you can see what’s going on with your camera. Why do you have these ads? And how can we stop them?

Please let me know what happens because I reached out to him as well. I don’t remember signing up for any ads. Or religious ads. You can’t see anything until they get through. It’s ridiculous. Get rid of these ads

Right Kami this is getting beyond a fucking Joke I’ve purchased 3 cameras and my world of home security was great , untill you guy’s fucked it up with adverts and cloud banging , I’ve got SD cards inserted and they absolutely do fine , now when I get an alert it take an eternity to view the fucker nicking my car , because I’m hammered with pointless ad’s that i cant navigate round , no wonder my fucking face looks like a baboons arse , do the right thing and fuck them right off the app and give the customer back they’re security
