I’m really pissed at this. I have 11 cameras with SD cards and I bought them because they did not have ads or required subscriptions. In the meantime I want to replace all my cameras with another brand that does not have ads or subscriptions because this is absolutely unscrupulous and I cannot support a company that does this. I would rather spend $500 on new cameras than to pay this company for a subscription. Any ideas? Someone mentioned to me that there is a class action lawsuit being filed so I’ll wait for that too.

Like others who have posted here, I’m frustrated at these enforced ads every time you want to open the app.

I purchased several Yi cameras (before the became Kami) because of the SD card recording, before the trend uptick of cloud based recording, but now loosing time when you are opening the app to see what has triggered an event is not only annoying and somewhat embarrassing when you’re in public, its a potential safety issue. Those seconds could allow someone to escape from an imminent attack or burglary.

Yes, offer a cloud based service but don’t penalized your other “paying” customers at the same time. Corporate greed wanting to line to pockets of the already wealthy shareholders perhaps?

Kami have lost any furture custom or recommendations from me. I for one will be looking for another brand of home security camera, and one with better zoning capabilities that offered by Yi/Kami.

Agree to all above. I use these cameras to monitor my Alzheimers mother, and I can never see what the push notifications are alerting me to, because the damn ads. It make them useless. And puts my mother at risk! Just set the ads to display once a day please. Or add a setting to turn them off. Is it worth it to never have a return customer, just to force these ads??

WE DON’T WANT or NEED CLOUD. We want to r=view our security alerts in a timely manner - not be bombarded. How difficult is it to understand

Sounds like a South Park apology to Donald Trump. “We are sorry “……NOT!! Give us some more money. Burning my cameras as they are useless and looking at another brand!!! 9 cameras getting trashed. At least I can reuse the SD cards.

I am totally agree. I email them and tell them if they delay my view of warning like fire or other emergency and I will sue them to block my camera force me to watch ads.
I am also want to fuck them baddly.

Fuck yi home app

Recent reports and customer feedback suggest that Yi Home cameras have significantly declined in performance and user experience, largely due to issues with their mobile app and subscription model. While older models were once considered good for their low cost, their current state has led many users to label them a “failure,” though the product line was never explicitly marketed with “fall protection”.

A specific “fall protection camera” from Yi Home could not be found through recent searches, but Yi’s general camera reliability and software problems are well-documented. Many of the issues are related to the company’s shift in business practices rather than hardware failure.

Reasons for user dissatisfaction

  • Intrusive ads: Recent updates to the free app have added mandatory, 30-second-long video ads that play every time you try to view a live feed or check an alert. For emergency use, this delay makes the cameras functionally useless.
  • Subscription-locked features: Core features that were once free, such as viewing motion-activated clips and accessing footage on a microSD card, are now reportedly hidden behind a mandatory and costly subscription paywall.
  • Motion detection inaccuracy: Customers report that the AI-based motion detection is unreliable, often failing to detect people while mistakenly alerting users to things like flying insects or moving branches. In some cases, alerts for people are missed entirely.
  • Poor app and connectivity: Reviewers and users complain of poor app performance, including long buffering times to access live streams and choppy, pixelated video feeds.
  • Non-existent customer support: Multiple user reviews on sites like Trustpilot and the Better Business Bureau mention a lack of responsive customer service and difficulty canceling subscriptions.

Alternatives to Yi Home

Due to these widespread issues, many sources, including the review site SafeWise, recommend avoiding Yi and its sister brand, Kami, entirely. Better alternatives with more reliable features and better pricing models include:

  • Wyze: A strong budget-friendly option that offers better performance and customer support.
  • Eufy: Provides reliable cameras with a focus on local storage options and no mandatory subscription fees.
  • TP-Link (Tapo): Another budget-friendly brand offering reliable cameras and local storage.

Every fucking time I open the app. It makes me not even want to check my cameras when I’m away from home. This is pathetic.

But what is even MORE pathetic is the fact that I finally broke down and renewed my cloud subscription because I need to be able to look back at recordings while I’m away. Yet despite the fact that you took my money, you now won’t let me add cameras to the system. The SAME DAMN CAMERAS that I already had installed on the cloud system in the past.

I have to start transitioning to a different system. Kami/Yi has obviously stopped trying to innovate and produce new products and is simply in a money grab mode until they fold.
