New Kami Wire Free Camera Problems

The camera just arrived yesterday from Amazon. I have some problems and may send it back for a refund.

The Amazon details promised a basic free cloud storage. It says “When motion is detected, a 6 seconds video of the detected activity is stored and secured for 24 hours in KAMI Cloud with no additional costs”. I cannot find the free storage in the app.

I have created accounts and enabled skills in Alexa. But Alexa cannot discover the camera. I have tried both with the Yi app and the Kami app. The instructions in the app seem to use the names Yi and Kami interchangeably. Which should I use? Yi or Kami or both.

I have tried to set the camera up in Google Home. It has found the camera through Kami Home. I have tried many different ways to ask Google to Stream the camera to Chromecast on Lounge TV but nothing happens. I have also tried to stream the camera to a Lenovo clock, which has a screen, and I get stream unavailable.

So far I’m not impressed, and see from reviews that many others are having similar problems. There is one bright spot though - The app for the PC works very well, even if rather basic. And the PC app is not mentioned in the instructions, and I found it by chance. Now, if the PC app could stream to Chromecast, that would solve some of my problems!

All YI or Kami Home cameras include FREE 6-second video clip recordings that are stored in the Cloud for 24 hours.
The 6-second, 7-day loop is a free cloud service available on all YI/Kami cameras. We offer monthly and annual cloud subscription plans to store the footage for longer periods of time.

Please try the steps below for the google assistant.
“1. Remove the cameras from the Alexa App.
2. Reinstall the Alexa App.
3. Power cycle the cameras. (Unplug and re-plug them for 5 to 10 seconds)
4. Proceed with the setting up, please refer to this link for your reference: https://help.yitechnology.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040978873-Discover-devices-with-Alexa-app-for-YI-Kami-cameras

The free cloud service can be accessed via ‘Alerts’ from the Welcome Home page of the application. Or from within the Alerts section within the actual camera.

Do not use the Cloud option that is for the premium service.

Granted it is not clear initially. The alerts remain accessible for seven days from the capture and will show you six seconds.

Once you get used to how that works it is fine, but can be confusing for a new user.

@ YorkshireUser - Thanks so much for making that clear. I had seen the alert videos but thought they were coming off the SD card.

Thanks but don’t really understand why I need to change Alexa in order to get Google Assistant to work. Never mind, I can live without it now I’ve found the Yi PC app.
