How to set up Yi home for an offline car security option? (without wifi)

Hey Everyone,

May I ask how could I set up the camera to work completely offline from a powerbank?
I would use the camera to place inside the car and record motion around it during the evening on its inserted SD card. Once I replace the powerbank it cannot record anymore (blue flashing light continues, but that’s it).

Another detail is I do not have WIFI at home, only 4G, but the camera setup went perfectly fine with 2 mobile hotspots, yet it is not a goal for the long run.

Thanks for your help,

Hello. For the Yi cameras to work they require an internet connection

Hey @mbereny This is correct! Our cameras require being connected to wifi connection. I haven’t seen any genius ideas from the forum yet to extend or have a a hotspot…

Maybe someone on the forum can give feedback!

I have used a cell phone to provide Internet to Kami cameras in remote locations. I now use GSM router’s at these locations as they’re permanent

Powerbanks will power the cameras as long as they’re at least 2A output. I often use the Powerbanks to set up the kami before I mount…easier do it on the ground than on the top of a ladder.

I will be experimenting with the idea of powering a kami with a solar powered powerbank.

That’s for another day

@mbereny We had another forum member give a little feedback on how they set up their cameras using different wifi options, maybe this could be of use to you and your camera setup goals!

@Brian thanks for the feedback! Definitely will benefit the community. And, love the solar power experiment! that is something of great interest to many I am sure of it.

When that day comes, please do share
